Library of Tibetan Works and Archives (LTWA) was started by the former Tibetan Government-in-exile (now CTA, Central Tibetan Administration). It is where all the Dharma texts of all four lineages are preserved, as well as many translations of those works into different languages.

In this video you can see Yeshe Dorje in the 70s warning foreigners not to take Gelug teachings seriously (see video at 0:40).

Luminaries and great Gelugpa teachers’ works such as Geshe Ngawang Dhargye’s would be in the LTWA during those days.

  1. It is incredible how Yeshe Dorje can be wearing monk robes yet has two wives and 7 kids.
Also Nyingma teachers such as Yeshe Dorje Can criticize Gelug teachings and Tibetan Govt (now known as CTA) stays quiet. Yet if a Gelug lama acts in a way slightly different, the CTA will come down very hard.
The Library as referred to is Tibetan Library of Works and Archives in Lower Dharamsala. It hosts so many great teachers of the highest calibre. In the 70′s, 80′s and 90′s many foreigners would go there to recieve teachings by great Gelug teachers. How can Yeshe Dorje say don’t take Gelug teachings seriously.

This is used out of context to try to discredit a great practioner!Quote: ” … he was a Nyingmapa from the old school, told me not to take the Gelugpa teachings too seriously – down at the old library …”
Notice he didn’t say: “don’t take the Gelugpa seriously”. The words used by the speaker are “too seriously” and “at the old library” (i.e. not all Gelugpa teachings). I hardly believe they were the exact words used by this wonderful lama who at the time would hardly have had a great grasp of the English language – surely the speaker is paraphrasing what Lama la said!
Taken in its historical context, that this came up is hardly surprising, considering Geshe Ngawang Dhargey was a practitioner of a certain evil spirit which is strongly anti-Nyingma and was himself strongly anti-Nyingma!
The speaker also mentions that Yeshe Dorje was a Ngakpa – I think you’ll find that he was wearing Ngakpa robes and that there was also no restriction on Ngakpas marrying and having children.
Coming from a strong Rime lineage and being a practitioner of pure Dharma, I hardly think Yeshe Dorje Rinpoche would tell people not to take the pure Dharma teachings of the great Gelugpa lineage seriously! Also as it is widely considered that the great Je Tsongkapa was an emanation of Guru Rinpoche himself this is hardly a likely comment for Rinpoche to make.
To be able to say: “Yeshe Dorje advised students not to take Gelug teachings seriously” as a factual statement would certainly require more than this short video clip.
It might be better for you to not spread such sectarian nonsense!

  3. Even if hypothetically lama had given up his Dorje Shugden practices during his life, which he did not, his gurus didn’t give it up. So if his gurus did not give it up, then the practices received by Lama Yeshe would have been degenerated since his lamas are degenerated. Zong Rinpoche up till his death in the early 80’s to his centers giving teachings, initiations, transmissions and commentaries.
